PIRELLI STILL ON TOP AT THE MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX OF CITTA’ DI FAENZA

First overall victory for Jorge Prado in MXGP. Jeffrey Herlings does not race but still heads the standings. Tom Vialle wins in MX2 and stretches his championship lead.

Faenza (Italy) September 9th, 2020 – The hard-packed and rough Monte Coralli circuit hosted the seventh round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship and the second race in a week for what was the Grand Prix of Città di Faenza. The track was almost in the same condition as the previous Sunday and Pirelli riders again took advantage of the excellent SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and rear tires combined with medium/hard mousse. The products allowed Pirelli to place riders in the first six positions of MX2 and in the first four of the MXGP class. Impressive numbers were found also in the championship standings with thirteen MX2 Pirelli riders in the first fifteen positions, and six in the MXGP top ten.

Jorge Prado took a first overall victory in the MXGP class. The Spaniard rode well through the ruts, avoided big mistakes and finished second in both races. Tim Gajser was second overall and won the final moto. Race one winner Jeremy Seewer took the third step of the podium. Antonio Cairoli placed fourth and missed the podium by just one point. Bad luck for Jeffrey Herlings who remains at the top of the championship standings but was forced to pull out of the event due to a bad crash in practice.

Tom Vialle celebrated overall victory in the MX2 class by winning both motos for the first time and brought his advantage in the standings over Jago Geerts to 21 points. Maxime Renaux backed-up the good performances of the last races by finishing second. Thomas Kjer Olsen returned to the top positions after the injury that held him back in the first part of the season and scored third place. A dominant day for Pirelli in MX2 was confirmed with Jago Geerts finishing fourth, Jed Beaton fifth and Stephen Rubini in sixth.

Next Sunday Monte Coralli will host the last race of the triple header with the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna, the eighth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship.
